HIGHLANDS: ‘Singularity.’
Isn’t it great how all this internet / blogging thing works out? I mean, here we are today, in a wet and miserable Scotland and HIGHLANDS, a shoegaze tinged psych band from Long Beach, California make contact because they read the recent post about The Ocular Audio Experiment who come from Boston!
To be honest, when I initially read the e-mail from the band, I was slightly put off by the name. Being a wet and miserable Scot myself, it immediately conjured thoughts of my homeland and the stereotypical brand of music associated with it.
But the more I thought about it, the irony of a band from Long Beach, California adopting this name and contrary imagery, the more appealing it all became.
Another band new to me, they have been quick to make an impression as I’m sure the following video for the album’s opening track, ‘Railroad‘ will confirm. It’s all about the drone; the reverb, the stoner-type vibe …. and the hair!
Guess where my pocket money will be going this week!
