ARTROCKER NEW BLOOD – Mummy Short Arms
My recent chat with MUMMY SHORT ARMS front-man James Allan appears in this month’s ‘NEW BLOOD’ section of ARTROCKER MAGAZINE and is reproduced here. (This is where you can also obtain a free download of the album track ‘Where’s The Mortuary.’)
SUMMER VIBE!
There should be no excuse required, but sunshine in the West of Scotland…?!
It would be rude not to…..
Enjoy!
Simply because these two tracks were pumping out the open windows of my, errrr, Citroen Berlingo van this afternoon. (I really do need a bit more street cred..!!)

LOUD HORIZON IS CHANGING!!
Over the past five years or so, LOUD HORIZON has steadily increased in popularity amongst bands, artists, PR Companies and record labels all looking for a little bit of exposure for their latest releases.
It has now reached the stage where it could become more of a full-time job (if only it paid!!) rather than ‘hobby,’ to be fitted in whenever I can find some spare time.
So, with immediate effect you’re going to see some (well, a lot) of changes.
I make no apologies, but it’s going to become a bit more self-indulgent! Rather than concentrate on reviews of new music, there will be occasional brief posts streaming sounds / showing videos of bands that I particularly enjoy.
I plan to continue writing for ARTROCKER MAGAZINE, so would still welcome e-mails with downloads / links etc., and I will read as many of them as I possibly can. But please don’t be offended if I don’t reply. I will definitely get back to you if I think I could be interested in writing about any particular band, either for the magazine or for LOUD HORIZON itself.
PLEASE DON’T GO TO THE UNNECESSARY EXPENSE OF SUBMITTING MUSIC IN PHYSICAL FORMAT AS I CAN NO LONGER GUARANTEE I’D BE ABLE TO FEATURE IT.
I’m gonna miss writing the blog the way it was – but there comes a time when you have to prioritise things in your life.
Thanks to everyone for all the support you’ve shown the blog over the past years – I do hope you’ll continue to drop by and share some excellent music / comment.
(Here’s some to be getting on with …….. I have a good few ‘favourite bands’ but in any list that precludes my proper punk preferences, then PRETTY GIRLS MAKE GRAVES would certainly make my all-time Top 5.
The first video is for a track taken from the band’s first full length album ”Good Health‘ and remains a particular favourite of mine. The second is lifted from the follow-up album ‘The New Romance‘ and always went down a storm when played live. Enjoy!)

CELEBRATION!
Finally!!
It’s been four months since I placed an order for the vinyl format of DEAD SKELETONS‘ ‘Dead Magick‘ album …… and it arrived today!
I want to share my joy with someone. Anyone. Heck …. Everyone!!!
(It’s a feeble excuse for being so self-indulgent, I know!)
Anyway – is this good, or what?
(I’LL BE CELEBRATING MORE WHEN I GET MY BLEEDIN’ LAPTOP BACK UP AND RUNNING AND CAN GET BACK TO MAKING REGULAR POSTS AGAIN!)
IMPORTANT NOTICE!
MY LAPTOP IS GOOSED!
I am on a borrowed laptop to write this – mine decided to play silly buggers this morning after I tried to run some ‘updates.’
It is now very possibly lying on the equavalent of a psychiatrist’s couch in PC World, telling some nice tech-guy all its problems.
In the meantime, with access to a computer / laptop severely restricted, new posts to the blog here at LOUD HORIZON are going to be decidedly sparse for the next week or so.
PLEASE BEAR WITH ME … I WILL BE BACK (… after I’ve given my laptop a damn good thrashing!)
CLOUD NOTHINGS – video and a few select UK dates.
Cleveland, Ohio’s CLOUD NOTHINGS released their album ‘Attack on Memory’ earlier this year through Wichita Records, and to coincide with their ridiculously long European jaunt, they’ve unveiled the mental, and oh-so-slightly trippy video for ‘Stay Useless’, taken from the album.
You can view the video below, but see the guys ‘live’ in the UK at the following venues:
MAY
9th – Cargo, London
10th - The Great Escape, Brighton
JUNE
1st – Shepherds Bush Empire, London (supporting Bob Mould)
5th - Captain’s Rest, Glasgow
6th - Brudenell Social Club, Leeds

THE SAVAGE NOMADS – New material on the way – (track showcased here!)
For the best part of a year now, I’ve been banging on about THE SAVAGE NOMADS, both through the medium of this blog and also via ARTROCKER MAGAZINE when they not only featured in the New Blood section but won that particular month’s competition for the most downloads of all the bands highlighted.
So I’m really happy to announce that the lads have a new EP due for release shortly. ‘Tension In The Middle’ will be released through Alaska Records on 27th May, and a review will be carried here on LOUD HORIZON within the next few days.
And it’s not just LOUD HORIZON who are excited about THE SAVAGE NOMADS. Mick Jones and Paul Simonon of The Clash, Matt Johnson (The The) and Robyn Hitchcock have all vocally offered their support and the band have garnered fiercely supportive reviews in Music Week, The Independent and The Mirror as well as a rapidly-building online buzz which is always increasing.
The aforementioned Mick Jones even had the band support him during his Justice Tonight tour amid a line up including leading members of Primal Scream and The Manic Street Preachers. Also, when The Jim Jones Revue saw The Savage Nomads live they immediately invited them to be a support act on their upcoming tour. They will be joining them at their Gloucester date this Friday (April 6th). On top of their residency at Notting Hill Arts Club The Savage Nomads have been booked for Yard Life festival among Pete Doherty and The Filthy Dukes and will be playing the main stage at Beach Break festival on the same bill as Dizzee Rascal.

FATHERSON – believe the hype!
I don’t know much about FATHERSON, I have to be honest.
But I DO know that several people have been suggesting to me that they are ‘the next big thing’ to come out of Scotland. I also know that they come from Kilmarnock, home of ‘the last big thing’ to come from Scotland – Biffy Clyro, of course.
They have supported / toured with the likes of Idlewild, Panic At The Disco and Feeder, and were announced as winners of ‘The Best Rock / Alternative Band’ at the recent Scottish Alternative Music Awards.
FATHERSON are playing six shows in Scotland this month (fresh from having just supported Frightened Rabbit at the HMV Picture House.
14th Jam Jar, Dunfermline
15th Ironworks, Inverness
16th Tunnels, Aberdeen
17th Electric Circus, Edinburgh
18th The Doghouse, Dundee
23rd Grand Hall, Kilmarnock (hometown show)
(Tickets available here.)
The band have also been confirmed for a special one-off single launch performance at The Apple Store, Buchannan Street, Glasgow on Thursday 12 April at 7pm.
Here’s the video for their new single ‘First Born’ which is due for release on 9th April. I suspect it may not be the last you’ll see / hear from them!

SOUND OF GUNS – video sampler of new album!
They think of everything these days!
You’ll know how much I’ve been raving about SOUND OF GUNS and looking forward to the release of their new album, ‘Angels And Enemies’ on 5th March.
If you doubt my word, then have a look at the following video link, which features clips of every track on the album - the perfect way to see what’s to come from them.
And if that serves to whet you’re appetite, you can see them ‘live’ at a venue near you throughout March. Check here for the dates.

Is it really not quite ‘de rigueur’ to be so self-indulgent on your own blog? Can it really be so bad?
Ach! Tough!
