REBEL TERRITORY: ‘On The Rock n Roll.’

Occasionally, a record arrives that instantly shines through in its presentation and delivery. It’s hard to explain, but even if the music is not particularly to your taste, you just get the feeling that it’s been put together in a really polished manner. The sound is ‘full’ and rounded. It doesn’t go for any fancy over-production or gimmicky hooks. It’s just bloody good!

This release from REBEL TERRITORY is one such record … and as it happens, in this case the music most definitely IS to my taste!

The opening track of the two is ‘Falling For You.’  There’s something reassuringly familiar with this one, especially so when it comes to the infectious chorus. It’s all pretty much quality, up-tempo ‘indie’ with a choppy rhythm, neat guitar and strong, melodic vocal harmonies. This one would certainly stand on its own and merit decent radio play, but it’s the title track that does it for me.

‘On The Rock n Roll’ succeeds in seamlessly mixing some chunky rock riffs with a more punchy geek-punk vocal approach. Think along the lines of The Wildhearts and Weezer. It’s so simple it’s brilliant!

I know the year is young, but this track is definitely the best that’s landed on my desk so far in 2012! In fact, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it’s not still one of my favourites in eleven months time.

(Released through Ascending Penguin on 14th February 2012)
